Here’s a hint:It begins with you! Some of those things your mama taught you go a long way in the business world! I guarantee that you’ll be the one they call next time they require your services.
1. Be Kind-Treat everyone with respect and courtesy
2. Be Sensitive- Notice people’s body language and tempo, adjusting yourself to their “speed” will immediately create more trust and comfort
3.Be Thoughtful- Send a follow-up note to people you meet and want to stay in touch with
4. Be Aware-Know that your reputation is very valuable. Don’t overdo the personal info at social networking sites ( no “swinging from the chandelier” photos)
5. Be visible- Get out there in person, in print, and in the media spotlight. This is no time to be “invisible” Step up your visiblity efforts
6. Be Friendly-Build up your memory muscles and remember people’s names and interests ( jotting down important details on their biz card is a great idea to help jog your memory)
7. Be a Generous Spirit- Who can you help? Selectively donate/collaborate w/ nonprofit organizations that may be in need of your expertise
8. Be Fully Present- No “checking out”,No sidelong glances or furtive checking your blackberry, when you are in conversation w/ someone, Be fully with them! What a treat it is to be in conversation with someone who you feel “get’s you and is truly listening!
