A brand new month of a brand new year. Perfect timing for mapping out your year. Here’s a quick process to make this task, which can be daunting, a “piece of cake.”
First, grab your master calendar, and then take out 2 clean pieces of paper. On page 1, write Personal as the heading; on page 2, Professional.
Then simply list all the ongoing commitments you already have, such as:
- Personal Commitments - your hobbies, kids, vacation schedule, school schedules, spiritual commitments, vacations, holidays, haircuts, car maintenance, doctor appointments, etc.
- Professional Commitments and Major Projects - group meetings, associations, Mastermind groups, coaching clubs, clients’ meetings, writing a book, seminars, etc.
Now, get out your calendar and mark down these dates.
Good.
Now, take a broad view of your year ahead.
Where is your schedule too congested? Where is there a lot of open space?
Here’s where you can get very strategic about your business planning. Decide what your top projects will be for 2009 and be sure to factor in the amount of time you need to execute the project from start to finish, including ample time for marketing. Mark your calendar with those important dates.
Great job! Now you’re in the driver’s seat with your road-map in hand for 2009. Your road-map (subject to fine tuning as the year progresses) includes both your “everyday” commitments AND your Big Vision items! Yes!
