There’s an old adage, “success breeds success.” I’ve personally found this to be true. Look around and you will see evidence of this, too. Think Tiger Woods, Oprah, Martha, and Donald Trump.

Are you so busy focusing on the next “big thing” that you forget to acknowledge what you have accomplished?

Lots of people make that mistake. One of my mentors, Kendall Summerhawk, starts our coaching calls with the question: “What successes did you have this week?” Kendall taught me the importance of acknowledging your wins. Whether they be big or small, you take them all!

Two critical things happen when you take the time to appreciate your successes:

Would you like to work smarter, be more successful, and take actions that are highly effective?

Did you say yes?

Good.

Before I spill the beans, allow me to share an analogy with you.

Compare your brain to your computer. Computers have the capability to do all kinds of things…download, search for information, process, and create new files, right? Well, so does your magnificent brain!

Picture this: You’ve had a few too many café lattes so you are raring to go work wise. You go a little crazy with your computer. Your computer “blue screens” on you or at the very least, begins to run at the speed of a snail. We’ve all had this experience, yes?

What just happened? Your computer was on “overload”, very similar to the way that we humans react when we’ve got too many “programs” running all at the same time! When you push yourself to your “psychic RAM limit”, you’ll find yourself acting a bit like your overworked computer. You will make more mistakes, lose things, or sometimes literally shut down. Unfortunately, there’s no trusty Best Buy Geek Squad team member who can rush to your rescue and “defrag” your life!

It is impossible to do consistent, excellent work when your mind is overloaded. Every day our brains are busy receiving and sorting thousands of bits of information. Fresh ideas, brilliant solutions, and clarity of focus happen most naturally if you can periodically “empty your head”.

So what’s an empty head? It sounds a bit counter- intuitive, doesn’t it? An empty head is simply this: a “de-cluttered mind”. There are 3 things you can do right away to give your brain a break, allowing you to be more effective at work and more relaxed at home. That sounds good, doesn’t it? You are just 3 steps away…
